The cold war was the long struggle for global supremacy between the United States and Soviet Union. Historians aren't sure of the date of the cold war but is told to be between 1947-91. The term "cold' is used because neither side had direct contact with the other side. The main goal of the cold war was to see which major power would have the most nuclear weapons.
Korean War
Korea had much importance to the Soviet Union. Carrying on this tradition, the Soviet Union raided southern Korea after WW2. The United States did not want the USSR to have to many territories to their name.The Korean War erupted on June 25, 1950 in the middle of the Cold War. Korea split into north and south, the north were controlled by anti-communists, and the United States controlled the south which was non communists. The 38th parallel was the location where the north and south divides.
Gandhi
Mohandas Mahatma Gandhi led India's indepedence in the 1930s against Great Britain. He believed in non-violent-protest.
Hydrogen Bomb
After the Soviet atomic bomb success, the idea of building a hydrogen bomb received interest in the United States. This type of bomb, deuterium and tritium are fused into helium, thereby releasing energy. There is no limit on the yield of this weapon. Edward Teller created the Hydrogen Bomb in 1952.
